ChatGPT to Word and PDF, without the ** and ##
Paste an answer from ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. You get a clean document with real headings, bold text, lists and tables, ready to download as Word or save as a PDF.
Your document shows here as soon as you paste.
What it fixes
- Symbols. ## and ### lines become Word headings (Heading 1, 2, 3, so a table of contents works), **text** becomes bold and *text* italic. Stray ** that never closed are dropped.
- Lists. Numbered and bulleted lists become real Word lists, nested ones included, instead of lines that start with a dash.
- Tables. Pipe tables become Word tables. Broken ones are repaired: a missing separator row, blank lines between rows, rows with an extra cell.
- Code. Code blocks keep their line breaks and indentation in a monospaced font, and never get bullets or curly quotes.
- Leftovers. ChatGPT's citation markers, invisible zero-width characters and bullets copied as plain text are cleaned up.
It does not change your words. If the answer said it, the document says it, in the same order.
What it does not do
- Images in an answer are not downloaded (that would mean a network request); the document says where each one was.
- Equations become readable text, not Word equation objects. Matrices and other complex TeX are kept as source.
- It works on one pasted answer at a time. For files on your computer, see the desktop app below.
How "nothing is uploaded" works
The page loads its script once, from asitis.app. When you paste, that script turns the text into a document in the page. The Word file is built in your browser too, by code that downloads from asitis.app the first time you press the button, and is handed to you as a download. The site's content security policy only allows connections back to asitis.app, and this page makes none with your text. Nothing is kept after you close the tab.

Questions
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser tab. The page makes no network request when you paste, preview or download, stores nothing, and the site runs no analytics. You can check in your browser's network panel, or load the page, go offline, and convert.
Why does pasted ChatGPT text show ** and ## in Word?
Chat apps write their answers in markdown, a plain-text format where ## means a heading and **word** means bold. The chat window draws it nicely, but the Copy button gives you the raw symbols, and Word does not read markdown. This page reads it and writes a real Word document instead.
Does it work with Claude, Gemini and Copilot too?
Yes. They all write markdown, so the same conversion applies. It also handles the citation markers ChatGPT sometimes leaves behind, bullets copied as plain text, and tables with a missing or broken separator row.
What happens to tables?
They become real Word tables with a shaded header row that repeats on each page. Rows with more cells than the header are kept (the header gets empty cells), and a table copied as tab-separated text is rebuilt as a table.
What about equations?
Common maths becomes readable text in a maths font: x^2 becomes x², \frac{a}{b} becomes a/b, \sqrt{x} becomes √x. They are not Word equation objects. Anything it does not recognise, such as a matrix, is kept as its original TeX so nothing goes missing.
How do I get a PDF?
Press Save as PDF. Your browser's print window opens with only the document in it; choose Save as PDF (on a phone, use Share or Print, then save). Turn off headers and footers in that window if you do not want the date and page address on each page.
Is it free? Is there a limit?
It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. It handles answers up to about 2 million characters, which is far longer than any chat reply.
Whole files, not just one answer
The AsItIs desktop app does this for whole files, and keeps everything else exactly as it was. Open the .md file ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot saved, fix what you need, and send a PDF or Word file. It is coming to Mac and Windows.
